Jean loved horses. They were a lot of fun, especially when they were spooked and they were running around they looked so wild and free and all the humans just ran around and panicked like little ants. Of course, he liked them when they were calm, too...they were good companions, he thought. They listened when he talked, or he liked to believe that they did. As amazing as horses were, he didn't see why more people didn't come to the stables to meet them like he did. It just didn't make sense. He had yet to find anyone who was worth talking to in this world so, for the moment, he was reduced to just talking to animals. Animals liked him, though, so it wasn't that much of a bad thing, at least not to his mind. Besides, he had faith that he was going to find a good companion and they were going to be best friends and then he wouldn't be lonely anymore and would be able to talk to someone who actually talked back!
As Jean walked above the streets, balancing precariously on the edges of buildings, he peered down at the afore-mentioned humans. They milled about noisily, completely oblivious to the demon walking above their heads, close enough to snatch away their precious souls (but he wasn't hungry right now, so he wasn't going to do that right now). As oblivious and infuriating and confusing as they could be sometimes, they were also endlessly amusing and seemed to be the prime candidate for his "let's find a best friend" plan, but he had yet to meet a single human that was willing to approach him or speak to him. Nor was he was able to find anyone who was interesting enough to actually talk to. It was awful. Sometimes he wanted to just go down to the humans' level and just yell at them until one of them agreed to be his friend.
Of course, that would get very little accomplished, and he didn't want that, did he?
A loud whinny broke his thoughts. Ah, he had arrived. While wrapped in his thoughts, he had already walked into the stables and was standing near the horses. With a smile on his face, he pulled his hood down further over his face, just in case a human came in (through he would be sure to notice if they did). "Hello, Holly, Drover, Manning!" he called, greeting the horses nearest to him. He had visited them many times and they came back to this place a lot, so they recognized him as well. Sometimes he brought them treats, too, but today he didn't have anything for them. He approached Holly first, reaching out to pet her coat reverently. "Did you miss me, old girl?"
